DVS supports Heart Stopper Challenge Bay of Plenty

DVS supports Heart Stopper Challenge Bay of Plenty

Savvy homeowners can nab a bargain ventilation system and support a worthy cause too

DVS have teamed up with the organisers of the Bay of Plenty Heart Stopper Challenge and donated a ventilation system worth $3,600 to raise funds for Heart Kids – the charity which supports those who battle congenital heart defects.

The DVS ventilation system is being auctioned on TradeMe with no reserve and a starting price of just $1,800. All proceeds from the auction will go to Heart Kids Bay of Plenty.

Managing Director Tony Sandes said the company didn’t hesitate to step in and help. “We jumped at the chance to donate a DVS system to help raise funds for Heart Kids. Having a dry, healthy home is vital for the health and wellbeing of all families, but especially for kids who are born with health issues such as congenital heart defects.”

The Heart Stopper challenge is a popular nationwide event that will see teams of supporters plunge into a pool of icy water for five minutes to help raise awareness and funds for Heart Kids. The inspiration behind the Heart Stopper plunge is the 450 open-heart surgeries performed every year in New Zealand on little hearts – some just hours old. Surgeons sometimes fill the chest cavity with an icy slush to slow the metabolism during surgery to allow a longer window of operating time.

The Bay of Plenty event is the first of this year’s Heart Stopper challenges and will take place at Coronation Park, Mount Maunganui on Saturday, 19 March, from 10am.

Rachael Parkes is Chairperson of Heart Kids BOP and mother to 6-year-old Mackenzie, who was born with a congenital heart defect.

“Every week in New Zealand 12 babies are born with congenital heart defects. That’s more than 600 little Kiwi kids coming into the world each year needing our support. That’s why this is such an amazing donation from DVS and we are blown away by their generosity,” says Rachel.

The successful bidder will receive installation of the BRANZ-appraised DVS Home Ventilation System, an extended 5 year warranty on all parts, installation and operation effectiveness, and an imported German EC fan that costs just $1.75 a month to run. Endorsed by Asthma NZ, the DVS Ventilation System has electronic controls and is fully automatic with multiple settings and temperature controls.
