Pay day at Selwyn AGM tomorrow
Pay day at Selwyn AGM tomorrow
Selwyn AGM attendees are in for a symbolic pay day tomorrow.
Members of the Coalition of Selwyn Supporters will be handing out ‘pay packets’ which highlight the difference between life on the minimum wage and life on the Living Wage.
The Coalition is calling on the Selwyn Foundation to honour their history and values by paying their staff a Living Wage of $19.80. Currently most of the kitchen staff, cleaners and laundry workers are on or near the minimum wage of just $15.25.
Coalition spokesperson Don Cotter says that Selwyn should draw on their organisation’s values when setting pay rates.
“Selwyn has a proud history of supporting those in need. Their mission statement talks about supporting vulnerable people,” Don says.
“Selwyn must be consistent with their values by supporting their workers as well. This means better pay, so they can fully participate and thrive in our communities.”
“We are calling on the Selwyn Foundation to commit to a Living Wage for all their directly employed and contracted service staff.”
“We ask Selwyn to work together with us on a path to deliver the Living Wage. That would be a win-win for both the workers and the foundation.”
