Port must move; expansion must stop
Port must move; expansion must stop
There is now agreement that the Auckland port needs to be moved. The Port Future Study’s Consensus Working Group unanimously agreed on this.
Our CBD waterfront needs to be accessible to the public and used to enhance Auckland’s social and economic wellbeing. It is in everyone’s best interests to use our valuable waterfront land in the best way possible.
Any attempt by the port to expand further into the harbour will be vigorously opposed by Aucklanders and there must be no further expansion prior to relocation.
We should start investigating the best sites for a new port now. It will never be cheaper or easier to move the port than it is today.
Only a separate independent study can determine exactly what the port’s needs are now and in the immediate future.
