Wellington - Petone ferry service is a must!
Ginny Andersen, Labour candidate for Hutt South says a Wellington - Petone ferry service is a must!
“I’ve supported re-opening the Petone Wharf since it was closed and this is just another great reason to make it happen as soon as we can. The proposed use by the ferry service could potentially help pay the costs of repair.”
Andersen is a committed advocate for public transport, and she thinks that a ferry service could help reduce the use of individual cars along State Highway 2. "Everyone in the Hutt knows that one little problem on State Highway 2 makes the commute to Wellington and absolute nightmare. If this helps solve that problem, and brings down the amount of traffic, then it's got to be a good thing.”
“With more people moving to the Hutt to enjoy the space and amenities here, and with more businesses moving into the area, we need to be thinking of smart alternatives to simply increasing the number of cars on the roads.
"Buses need to be hooked into a ferry service too."
As a vocal leader of the 'Save Petone Wharf'
campaign, Andersen welcomes the idea and is committed to
working with Hutt City Council and Mayor Ray Wallace to
help make the idea a reality.
