Rents rocket in the regions
The latest Trade Me Property Rental Index - this covers our April data.
What we're seeing
· Rents in the regions (areas excluding Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch) are rocketing - they've jumped 10% in the last year
· Rents in the regions have jumped $15 between March and April
· In the last three years the annual cost of renting the typical property in the regions has gone up over $4000
· Meanwhile in Auckland median weekly rents hit a new record high in April up to $530
· The Bay of Plenty is now the second equal highest place to rent in New Zealand with Wellington on $450
· There are a number of regions surging including the BOP, Northland an Waikato
· Auckland apartments have edged closer to the $500/week mark and look set to push through that milestone in the near future
