Due to a crash on State Highway 1 - Rakaia at the Rakaia Rail Overbridge is currently CLOSED.
Motorists are advised to please follow directions of emergency services who are on site.

An update…
A detour has been put in place - northbound traffic via Main Rakaia Rd - Old South Rd - SH 1 and reverse for southbound traffic.
Motorists are advised that Old this is an unsealed road and drivers should reduce their speed and take extra care.
This detour is not suitable for HPV vehicles.
4.18pm
The road remains closed at this time - the next update is expected at 5pm.
It has also been confirmed that the detour route is suitable for HPV vehicles.
