Demonstrators take another stand against rodeo

Demonstrators take another stand against rodeo

Over 40 people joined together outside the Outram Rodeo grounds on Waitangi Day, as part of the Animal Justice League’s second successful protest- calling for a ban on Rodeo in Aotearoa.

As part of the continued Ban Rodeo actions across the nation, people came from all over the South Island to protest the existence of rodeos in NZ.

"We are echoing the same message that a majority of New Zealanders are asking for - We want a ban on the rodeo in NZ. It is well past its heyday as Kiwi’s see it for the animal abuse it is," Said Leighton Thompson, Animal Justice League Team Member.

“Renewed public outcry following the Pukemanu Bull Riding event on Friday night in Martinborough, where a fatally injured bull was witnessed bellowing for up to 10 minutes before dragging himself out of the arena to be put down. This is disturbing, unnecessary and exactly why we will not stop advocating for this cruel practice to be banned,” Said Mr Thompson

“There is overwhelming support for a ban on Rodeo in Aotearoa, with only a minority of people opposing a ban. We are asking our government to do the humane thing and ban this abuse.” Stated Mr Thompson.

The demonstration was peaceful and well received.
