Parking wardens respond to call for after-hours patrols
1 April 2019
Random after-hours patrols are now being conducted by Palmerston North City Council parking wardens.
“We’ve listened to the concerns of the disability sector about people not respecting the use of mobility parks after-hours,” says Chris Dyhrberg, Chief Customer and Operating Officer.
“We’ll now be operating random after-hours checks on mobility parks and ticketing those breaching parking rules. It’s important those needing to use disability parks have access to them 24/7 and we’ve heard this isn’t happening. There’ll be no warnings and zero tolerance.”
The after-hours patrols will also respond to complaints such as obstruction of footpaths.
“The wardens will also educate people parked illegally in other areas. However, any vehicles compromising public safety, will be ticketed.”
“We want to ensure parking is accessible to everyone entitled to use it and our rules are adhered to outside of usual business hours. After we’ve carried out after-hour patrols, we’ll report back to the public how well our drivers are adhering to parking regulations. ”
The random patrols commence from today.
