Ex Tropical cyclone DOVI will make landfall close to Kawhia Harbour at around 10am Sunday morning before tracking east across the North Island bringing wind gusts of 90km to 100km for Coromandel.

“The first impacts for the Coromandel will be felt from mid-morning Sunday, with a noticeable increase in winds and wind gusts of between 90km &100km/p/h, but not a noticeable amount of rain” says our Civil Defence Controller Garry Towler.

“As of this evening we are under a MetService Watch which is linked to the forecast wind gusts, but this can change very quickly to a warning, so take the time now to prepare."

Ensure that you charge your phones and batteries, tie down outdoor furniture, and re-assess Sunday travel plans.

“Wind from this north-westerly direction tomorrow is unusual and could cause trees to topple and waves to overlap along the Thames Coast Road. ”
