Police have arrested and charged a 34-year-old man with murder following the
death of a woman in Henderson last night.

Police were alerted to reports of a firearm being discharged at an address on
Newington Road shortly before 9pm.

On arrival, Police located a woman with gunshot related injuries. Immediate
first aid was provided however she sadly died at the scene.

The man is due to appear in the Waitākere District Court today.

While we are in the very early stages of our investigation, we believe this
was an isolated incident and the pair are known to each other.

We want to reassure the community that we do not believe there is a wider
risk to the public.

Cordons were in place overnight and a scene examination will continue today
in relation to this homicide investigation.

As this matter is now before the Court, Police have no further comment.
