Police received a report of a two-vehicle crash on Timaru-Temuka Highway at about 5.40pm.
One person is in a critical condition.
The road is currently closed.
Diversions are in place on Arowhenua Road and Hopkinsons Road.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
