Traffic Delays Expected As Rock Cleared

Motorists should be prepared for traffic congestion and delays as work is carried out to clear a rockfall catchpit at the southern end of the Cobden Bridge on State Highway 6 at Greymouth next week. The catchpit is there to intercept and contain most rocks falling from the cliffs above and prevent them from reaching the road.

The clearing work is due to take place from Wednesday 11 June to Friday 13 June, between the hours of 8am and 5pm, and a lane shift will be in place to keep traffic flowing. While two-way traffic will be available at all times, the right turn bay onto the bridge will be closed, meaning there may be delays for those travelling west past the bridge.

Those travelling through the area during the work periods are asked to be patient and to plan for longer travel times.
