Northbank Road Access Times Confirmed
Northbank and Onamulutu residents can use a temporary bypass to get around the slip on Northbank Road at the following times only:
- Friday 4 July: 12 midday to 2pm; 4pm to 5pm
- Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 July: 8am to 9am; 12 midday to 1pm; 4pm to 5pm
- Monday 7 July: 7.30am to 9am; 4.30pm to 5.30pm
Access is currently for light vehicles only (no trucks). People wishing to walk or cycle through must also do so during these times.
Marlborough Roads engineers are working to stabilise the slip. Significant works will be taking place over the coming days to remove the risk of the slip moving again or creating further rock fall hazards.
“We hope to reopen the road as soon as possible,” Marlborough Roads Recovery Manager Steve Murrin said.
“However, this is a dangerous slip and requires rock work specialists to make it safe. We can’t put an estimate on how long the work will take but we are working on it as an absolute priority.”
“We hope to be in a position to allow truck access from early next week.”
A further update will be provided as soon as the situation changes.
