Police accept and are pleased with the findings by the Independent Police Conduct Authority which investigated a complaint against officers following a vehicle stop in Richmond on 1 August 2024.

Tasman District Commander, Superintendent Tracey Thompson says Police agree with the findings that the officers acted lawfully throughout the vehicle stop and thereafter.

“After the man’s vehicle was stopped, he became aggressive and refused to provide his details. He was placed under arrest, and subsequently, his vehicle keys were secured by an officer, as is standard procedure during an arrest.

“I want to commend the work of my staff, who followed protocol throughout the process of this routine vehicle stop.”

The man provided his details to Police a short time after being placed under arrest, and the matter was resolved.

“Police have a role to play in keeping the community safe and on this occasion, I am incredibly proud of their efforts here in dealing professionally with an aggressive individual.
