Help Marlborough Top The ShakeOut 2025 Leaderboard

In just over a month’s time, Marlborough schools, workplaces and individuals are being urged to get behind New Zealand ShakeOut 2025 to help the region top the national leaderboard.
ShakeOut is an annual, self-run, earthquake and tsunami hīkoi (evacuation) drill; an opportunity to learn and practise the correct actions to take during such emergencies.
This year National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is aiming to get one million people involved across the country and is operating a leaderboard.
Council’s Senior Advisor Community Resilience Dave Parsons said it was a good idea to participate in the drill no matter how many times you may have done it before.
“Day to day, we’re not always thinking about what we will do in an emergency. ShakeOut provides a great opportunity to remind ourselves, our families, our friends and colleagues of what to do before, during and after an event like an earthquake or tsunami,” he said.
“We want as many Marlborough businesses, schools and individuals to get on board as possible, for their own safety and for the added bonus of helping Marlborough top the leaderboard.”
Participants must be officially registered for their participation to count on the leaderboard, and can sign up here:https://getready.govt.nz/involved/shakeout/sign-up.
The official ShakeOut for 2025 will take place on 16 October at 9.30am.
