Fireworks Still On But New Year’s Entertainment Cancelled At Picton's Foreshore
The spectacular fireworks display at midnight for the annual Marlborough District Council New Year’s Eve celebration will go ahead in Picton tonight but the supporting entertainment on the Foreshore is cancelled.
After a wild few days of weather in Marlborough, and around the country, the difficult decision has been made to cancel the entertainment and food on the Foreshore which is unfortunate.
This is due to health and safety concerns which includes the possibility of some more rain in the forecast this evening as well as weather-induced delays with set up for the event as a result of yesterday’s adverse conditions.
However, people are encouraged to still come to Picton and enjoy all that the town offers for the evening and to support the local cafes, restaurants and hospitality businesses in the seaside town which will be open and ready to welcome the public.
Thank you to event delivery company, Pure Events Marlborough, suppliers and Council staff for their considerable efforts in exploring alternative options for this year’s event.
Generous event sponsors Ray White – Blenheim and Picton, Bluebridge, Summerset and BP Computers are also thanked for their support.
