Cyclone Vaianu Update From Kaipara District Council
We remain in Orange (Heavy Rain and Strong Wind) Warning status. The latest modelling from MetService tells us there is a low risk that Kaipara will move into Red Warning status, however things can change quickly and it is always best to be prepared.
We are expecting the worst of the weather late tonight and into the early hours and have staff rostered on overnight to monitor the situation closely. If your property is safe, the best thing you can do tonight is stay in, warm and dry at home. Please keep off the roads.
If your property is prone to flooding – make a plan to evacuate before you need to. If you need to leave your home and can’t stay with friends or family, there are temporary places of shelter available later tonight or ready to open if needed.
• Mangawhai Heads – Campbell Park Christian Camp, 280 Molesworth Drive. Open from 8pm tonight (Saturday). Beds available, please bring your own bedding
• Mangawhai Village – Causeway Church, 30 Urlich Drive – will open if needed. No beds, please bring bedding from home
• Dargaville Anglican Church – will open if needed
• Dargaville Scout Hall – will open if needed
