Spring Creek Community Meeting Coming Up

A community meeting is planned for Wednesday 20 May to update Spring Creek residents on progress with the Peninsula Road stop bank project.

Members of the community are invited to attend from 7.15pm at the Spring Creek Community Hall on Ferry Road. Mayor Nadine Taylor will open the meeting at 7.30pm. She will be joined by councillors, Council staff and contractors.

The presentation will include an overview of the project and summary of achievements to date from Council as well as a detailed explanation of Year One works and expectations for Year Two from Taylors Contracting.

The upgrade to two primary sections of stop bank along Peninsula Road near the township is needed to prevent the banks failing. If this happened, it would compromise the safety of Spring Creek township and State Highway 1.

The stop banks were damaged in the 2016 Kaikōura earthquake and 2021 and 2022 floods. While repairs have been carried out, they remain vulnerable.

The repair and resilience work in Spring Creek is funded by Council and Government's Regional Infrastructure Fund (RIF), which is administered by Kānoa – Regional Economic Development and Investment Unit.

The contract for the project was awarded in early November 2025 to Taylors Contracting and is on track for completion in June 2027.
