Software register for new Australian tax system
Austalian Tax Commissioner Michael Carmody today urged business decision-makers to visit the Tax Office's Registered Software Facility (RSF) before making any business or financial software purchases.
"The RSF is fast becoming an essential resource for businesses who need to choose software that meets Tax Office requirements," Mr Carmody said.
"Currently, 175 software products are either registered on the RSF or going through the self-registration process. Products are tested by software developers against tax scenarios. The developer then declares that their product meets Tax Office requirements."
The RSF has been established in consultation with the business and financial software development industry. It lists products that have been designed to meet the requirements of the new tax system.
"It's important businesses properly research their software purchasing decisions as they move towards the new tax system. The RSF can make these decisions easier by showing which software has been tested against the various tax scenarios.
"The RSF also helps to improve the overall quality of business and financial software," Mr Carmody said.
The RSF website is at www.ato.gov.au/rsf/ and features a publicly available register of software products; a search facility for consumers; an online calendar that gives information on tax "milestones" and updates; information resources specifically tailored for software developers like specifications, rulings and test scenarios; information about Tax Office consultation with the software development industry as well as product/scenario information and media releases.
