Shell Committed To New Fuels For New Zealand

Shell remains fully committed to working with the Government, the New Zealand Refining Company, other industry participants and stakeholders in introducing environmentally improved fuels into New Zealand, including lower sulphur diesel.

The forthcoming Government Review into fuel specification standards is keenly awaited, and will address diesel standards. This is pivotal to the process if introducing any new fuel into the market. But this would be only one element in the overall picture.

Shell says that it is not the time for rhetoric or posturing on the issues around improving New Zealand’s air quality, nor are these issues simple or standalone.

“This is a time for considered action, and many actions are underway. It would be patently foolish to move forward without a complete understanding of the issues, and a full examination of all the facts.”

Shell has been encouraged by the ARC’s commitment to relieve traffic congestion in Auckland City – believed to be the prime source of that city’s air pollution problems.

“Good on Phil Warren for appreciating the importance of improving traffic congestion, and making a commitment to do something about it.”

Shell’s Auckland customers and the wider New Zealand public can be rest-assured that Shell remains 100 per cent committed to introducing cleaner, greener fuels and a lower sulphur diesel is amongst these.
