Gull Diesel Already Achieving Lower Sulphur Levels

Gull Petroleum said today the lower levels of sulphur proposed by the Auckland Regional Council (ARC) to clean up the city's air pollution were perfectly realistic and even lower levels could be targeted.

Gull Executive Director, Neil Rae, said in Auckland today that Gull had been delivering significantly lower sulphur levels to New Zealand diesel users since its arrival in the country in 1999.

"Gull sulphur levels have always been consistently below 1,000 parts per million (ppm) and the uncontaminated supply that helped alleviate the recent diesel crisis was about 500ppm," Mr Rae said.

"This shows that the ARC is asking nothing out of the way when it requests the major oil companies to reduce levels from about 2,400ppm to 1,000ppm."

"To get the environmental results it desires the ARC should, in my view, be looking at around 500ppm," Mr Rae said.
