MEXICO APPOINTS HONORARY CONSUL BASED IN AUCKLAND

A partner at major national law firm Simpson Grierson has been appointed Honorary Consul of Mexico.

From this month, Denis McNamara will be the main contact for the Embassy of Mexico in the Auckland, Northland and Waikato regions, with responsibility for promoting Mexico's interests in the upper North Island.

His duties include assisting the Embassy in fostering relationships between Mexico and New Zealand in the business and trade arena, as well as supporting academic activities and cultural exchanges, while also assisting with documentation requirements for Mexican nationals.

The Ambassador of Mexico, His Excellency Mr Jorge Alvarez, stated that one of the reasons Mr McNamara was selected by the Embassy of Mexico was because of his significant experience and expertise in international trade and investment issues. "I'm sure that Denis McNamara will not only help to open doors and to raise the profile of Mexico across the board, but that he will also contribute to our overall aim of bringing Mexico to the hearts of the New Zealand people."

Mr McNamara is a board member of the New Zealand Committee of the Pacific Economic Co-operation Council, and a member of the Inter Pacific Bar Association, the Institute of Directors and the International Society of Hospitality Consultants.

He is a business lawyer in Simpson Grierson's Corporate, Property and Hospitality Groups.

Mexico is one of New Zealand's fastest-growing export destinations. Exports to Mexico more than doubled last year to $440 million, making it New Zealand's 16th-largest market.
