Sector Leaders Meet To Discuss Dairy Insight

A high-powered symposium, hosted by Dairy InSight, the new dairy industry good organisation, will discuss the dairy industry and issues impacting on the future of the industry, on Wednesday 27 February.

Parliamentarians, dairy companies, industry organisations and industry sector leaders will join Dairy InSight to review and comment on the findings of the two stages of consultation Dairy InSight has undertaken nationally to date, in the lead up to the dairy farmer’s Commodities Levy Act vote in May.

“Dairy InSight has been out talking to people in the industry about the issues they see as important and the role Dairy InSight should play in securing the long-term future of the New Zealand dairy industry. We have spoken to hundreds of farmer representatives in 14 meetings around the country and 230 rural professionals in a second round of nation-wide meetings,” says Peter Bodeker, CEO of Dairy InSight. “During April and May Dairy InSight will be holding 35 meetings with farmers and sharemilkers.”

A number of sector leaders in research, workforce, training, farm management, finance and veterinary will present their perspectives on industry good activities and the role of Dairy InSight. Chris Kelly of Landcorp, Tim Deane of the BNZ, John Cardus of AgResearch, Kevin Bryant of AgITO and David Hayes of the Veterinary Association are among the guest speakers.

Dairy InSight’s mission is to address the real needs of the dairy industry in its funding of industry good activities.

“Dairy InSight is seeking an open and frank discussion that will take us one step closer to finalising the proposed programme of industry good activities that will be presented to farmers in the next couple of months,” says Mr Bodeker.
“When farmers vote on the Commodities Levy Act in May, they will be extremely familiar with the content of the programme, as they will have helped to create it,” says Mr Bodeker.
