Sell More Gas and Save Electricity - Release

Install More Gas And Save Electricity

"There is no shortage of gas for domestic gas users, but there is a potential shortage of gas for the generation of electricity. "

"It is the supplies to those electricity generations, and other large industrial, processes that are in jeopardy of reduced or non supply as Maui gas availability runs out" said the GASA Executive Officer Garth Wyllie

"There are significant reserves of gas untapped off the Canterbury coastline and potential to discover more North Island reserves long before Maui runs out. The domestic and commercial consumer has nothing to fear from the demise of Maui, as they will still be well supplied."

"The conversion of gas into electricity is a poor use of gas reserves. Heating a jug of water by gas converted to electricity takes the equivalent of 4 times the amount of gas which would be used directly to heat that amount of water", he said. "Using electricity made from Gas is highly inefficient, and when we talk about saving electricity, the more households we can convert to the direct use of Gas, the greater the saving, both in gas and in electricity!"
