New Carter Holt Harvey Director Strengthens Asian Connection

Carter Holt Harvey Chairman John Maasland today announced the appointment of Brian McDonald to the company’s Board of Directors. Mr McDonald’s appointment will be effective 25 July 2003 and fills the seat that will be vacated by the retirement on 24 July 2003 of director Bob Butler.

John Maasland noted Mr Butler’s significant contribution to the Board.

“Bob Butler has been on the Board for ten years. During that time he brought us wealth of experience, not only in the financial area where he is particularly skilled, but in all matters. We have been exceptionally fortunate to have someone of Bob’s capability on the Board and he will be missed.”

“The appointment of Brian strengthens the company’s connection with Asia. We will benefit from adding Brian’s in-market presence in China as Carter Holt Harvey grows in this important market.”

Brian McDonald is President International Paper Asia, responsible for that company’s business in the Asian Region (India to Japan). Prior to this appointment he has served as an alternate director on Carter Holt Harvey’s Board of Directors He has been with International Paper for 15 years. Prior to his appointment as President International Paper Asia, Mr McDonald served as General Director of OAO Svetogorsk where he was responsible for building the company’s business in Russia. Mr McDonald received his BA from Brandeis University, his Masters of Forestry from Duke University, and his MBA from The University of Virginia.
