Spencer appointed Director Of Mahurangi Estate

John Spencer, Chairman of Tainui Group Holdings Ltd, a Trustee of Workbase, the Government funded Centre for Workplace Literacy and Numeracy, and a recently appointed Director of NIWA, has accepted an appointment as a Director, with effect from 1 September 2003, of Mahurangi Estate Winery Limited, an unlisted public company with vineyards in the Matakana and Gimblett Gravels regions.

The Company was established to produce wines of exceptional quality from company owned vineyards and to create a destination for visitors to enjoy good food and wine in a relaxed vineyard environment. The opening, in 2002, of the Company’s café at its Hamilton Road Warkworth vineyard, which is included in the Matakana wine trail, provides such an opportunity.

Grape production of 400 tonnes, from company vineyards and fruit grown under contract, is expected on completion of the Company’s development, projected to be in 2008.

MEWL Chairman, Mike Hanaray of Hamilton, says that the Company is pleased Mr Spencer has accepted the invitation to join the Board, and is confident the future growth and development of the company going forward, will be greatly assisted by the input of Mr Spencer’s business experience and knowledge.

Mr Spencer is Deputy Chairman of the Accounting Standards Review Board and in October 2002 received an award for his valued contribution to the Accounting Profession.

He has previously held the positions of Chief Executive Officer and Group General Manager, Finance, of New Zealand Dairy Group prior to the establishment of Fonterra
