Contact Energy walking the talk
Contact Energy walking the talk
Contact Energy is walking the talk on energy efficiency with their commitment recognised at a function in Wellington this morning.
Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) Chief Executive Heather Staley says Contact Energy is not only an important energy user in its own right, as a major electricity retailer and generator they are also strategically placed to exert an important influence in the wider market.
"Realising their responsibilities, Contact is undertaking a range of ongoing energy-efficiency initiatives both in-house and among customers," Ms Staley said.
Among other things, Contact has appointed a dedicated Energy Manager, sent executives on the New Zealand Energy Managers course and mounted switch off campaigns to staff.
The company is also implementing energy audits at sites around the country, sparked by the success of a pilot at its Wellington office. A revamp of the air conditioning will save Contact's Wellington office more than 20 percent a year and further savings will be achieved through changes to its lighting.
"The really exciting thing for us is the approach Contact is taking with their business customers. Contact is offering major industrial customers energy-efficiency services and advice and introducing them to the benefits of EECA's Emprove business programme. Contact also partnered with EECA to distribute posters and stickers to businesses as part of our 'Better Off' campaign," Ms Staley said.
Ms Staley said EECA is improving energy choices. For information on EECA's business programme visit www.emprove.org.nz
