Gas Pipeline Still Under Threat From Further Bad Weather
The Gas Industry is pleased that the partial re-pressurisation of the pipeline delivering natural gas to Hawke's Bay and the northern Tararua district has been successful, despite the adverse weather events over the weekend.
"The restoration of gas is only temporary, and supplies will remain at risk to the predicted bad weather until more permanent diversions of the pipeline are in place," said Stephen Parker, National Manager of the Gas Association.
"Work is now under way on restoration of normal supply by a replacement for the existing damaged section of pipe. This work is scheduled to be completed within the next week to 10 days.
"If further problems with the pipeline do eventuate causing a resumption of restrictions on the use of gas, retailers will contact their customers directly, and the 0800 50 7000 freephone number will be updated with the latest information," Stephen Parker said.
The Gas Industry thanks consumers who made such concerted efforts to voluntarily save natural gas during the emergency.
