Commission clears supermarket operator

Progressive Enterprises Ltd (PEL) has been advised that no further action will be taken by the Commerce Commission regarding a complaint against the Foodtown Woolworths onecard.

The Commission has found that wording contained in promotional material for the reward card was not misleading but it may have been confusing to some people.

It says it will not take any further action on the matter.

PEL co-operated fully with the Commission and the company has agreed to review all Foodtown Woolworths onecard promotional material.

PEL chief operating officer Richard Umbers says the Foodtown Woolworths onecard is a highly-successful rewards programme with more than one million card holders nationwide.

"The Commerce Commission decision reassures onecard holders of the credibility of the programme and we look forward to bringing more onecard rewards to our customers three times a year," Mr Umbers says.

The complaint was made under the Fair Trading Act 1986.

About Foodtown Woolworths onecard: Promising 'bigger savings and better rewards' the Foodtown Woolworths onecard was launched by Progressive Enterprises Ltd in May 2003. Cardholders receive discounted prices on more than 2,500 items every week in every Foodtown and Woolworths supermarket. Shoppers also accumulate points at the rate of one point for every whole $10 spent that are redeemed for additional rewards such as grocery cash vouchers and bonus rewards. Rewards are distributed three times a year.
