Big environmental tick for Pink® Batts® Ultra™

Big environmental tick for Pink® Batts® Ultra™

The country’s premium range of insulation products, Pink® Batts® Ultra™, now carries the endorsement of Environmental Choice New Zealand (ECNZ). This is the first and so far only range of insulation products to receive such an endorsement and reinforces Pink® Batts® Ultra™ as a leading contributor to New Zealand’s environmental conservation.

Pink® Batts® is New Zealand’s favourite insulation with Pink® Batts® Ultra™ as the high performance range of Pink® Batts® products especially designed to make New Zealand houses even warmer.

Initiated and endorsed by the New Zealand Government, Environmental Choice recognises the genuine moves made by manufacturers to reduce the environmental impacts of their products and provides a credible and independent guide for consumers who want to purchase products that are better for the environment.

Manufacturing ingredients, the production process, energy saving policies, recycling programmes and waste disposal methods were all reviewed by ECNZ and expert consultants before the environmental award was made.

Tasman Insulation New Zealand General Manager Bill Smith says he regards the classification as endorsement of a company policy that places a premium on environmental housekeeping.

“It is also an essential part of the ECNZ test that independent testing should show all five of our Pink® Batts® Ultra™ wall and ceiling products meet the thermal resistance criteria that the company claims they meet. Tests carried out by BRANZ on samples bought at point of sale confirmed that thermal resistance criteria were easily met by all the products in the Pink® batts® Ultra™ range.

“We consider recycling and accurate labelling as very important and this is reflected in the review of the assessors. Up to 80% of our product is recycled glass. The remainder is sand and other minerals. They are melted and spun at extremely high temperatures to create the glass wool product. A small quantity of organic binder holds the fibres in place.

“By specifying Pink® Batts® Ultra™, homeowners can now not only get the benefits of a warmer, healthier, more energy efficient house, they can also have the comfort of knowing they are making a choice that is right for New Zealand’s environment as well.” Mr Smith said.
