TVNZ has confirmed that presenter Paul Holmes will make his final broadcast on the Holmes programme on TV One tonight.
The Head of News and Current Affairs, Bill Ralston, said it was with genuine regret that he confirmed Paul's decision not to renew his contract with TVNZ.
"The choice was Paul's and Paul's alone, and we wish him well in his new venture," he said.
"In the interim the show will continue and be renamed. TVNZ reaffirms its commitment to a thirty minute current affairs show on weeknights at 7pm on TV ONE."
Bill Ralston said it was important to realise that while Paul Holmes had made a huge contribution to TVNZ over the years, a well-established current affairs show such as this was always greater than the sum of its parts.
"I have no doubt we have the talent available to maintain the quality and reputation we have always enjoyed."
He said he would make further announcements in relation to the programme as circumstances permitted.
