Paul Newman Announces $100,000 For New Zealand Charities

Once again, legendary actor and philanthropist Paul Newman will donate over $100,000 to local charities from New Zealand sales of his world famous Paul Newman's Own salad dressings.

Applications for funding opened today and New Zealand charities wanting to be considered for a grant should have funding requests in before 14 February 2005. New Zealand funding application forms are available from www.goodmanfielder.com.au.

Paul Newman's philosophy is to give all after tax profits from his product sales to those in need in the country in which the products are sold.

This is the 15th year The Paul Newman Foundation has given grants to New Zealand charities bringing its total contribution in New Zealand and Australia to more than $9 million.

According to marketing manager of Paul Newman's Own, Monique Farrell, a diverse range of registered New Zealand charities - from CANTEEN to the Onewhero Rural Fire Force - have benefited from grants.

"All registered charities with IRD documentation specifiying tax deductibility for the donor, are given full consideration so we're hoping for a good response and urge charities not to leave it too late to get their submissions in," says Monique.

To be eligible for entry, charities must receive minimal government funding, spend their grants within New Zealand on a particular project and not use grant monies to fund salaries or administration costs. Individual or personal requests and projects requiring recurring budget expenditure will not be considered.

The Paul Newman's Own range of salad dressings are distributed in New Zealand by Bluebird Foods Limited, who work closely with the Paul Newman Foundation on grant distribution.
