Freedom Air Wellington-Fiji Service Takes Flight

Media Release – Ex NZ
11 February 2004

Freedom Air Wellington-Fiji Service Takes Flight

At 4pm today a plane load of Wellingtonians are headed straight for warmer weather on the inaugural flight of Freedom Air’s new Wellington-Fiji service.

Since the announcement of this new service offering in August, much anticipation has been building about the new gateway to sunny Fiji, and 1,200 people have already booked flights on this route.

Freedom Air general manager Stephen Jones says as the only New Zealand owned low-cost airline Freedom Air is committed to making travel to more exciting destinations a possibility for more Kiwis.

“Our direct services and really, really small fares open up the possibility of a trip to Fiji for more people in the Wellington area. We’re pretty excited about the launch of this new service, which has been received well locally,” he says.

Jones says by flying directly to Fiji with Freedom Air, Wellington travellers don’t need to worry about domestic connecting flights.

“This makes travel to Fiji more convenient for the Wellington traveller and saves our passengers precious holiday time.”

Jones says that the new Wellington services are due to the strong results Freedom Air has enjoyed on this route from other ports. “Since we began introducing our Fiji routes in April last year, more than 30,000 passengers have booked flights on these services. It is clear that direct flights to Fiji from airports closer to home is exactly what the New Zealand public is looking for.”

The success of Freedom Air’s services to Fiji from Hamilton, Palmerston North and Christchurch has led the airline to increase its weekly services to twice weekly during the peak season – beginning April 2005.

Wellingtonians can take a break in the Fijian sun from $199*(one way. Available until 21 February 2005) via the Freedom Air website, www.freedomair.com. *Fare excludes an $8 per sector insurance surcharge, $20 fuel surcharge and all other taxes. A return fare or onward ticket must be purchased to fulfil Fiji immigration requirements. Other conditions apply.
