Special Trains to British Lions Games in Wellington

Tranz Metro and Tranz Scenic will be operating special train services from the Wairarapa and Manawatu to both British Lions Games at Westpac Stadium in Wellington.

A return Tranz Metro service will operate between Masterton and Wellington on Wednesday June 15 for the game against Wellington and on Saturday July 2 for the All Black test. Tranz Scenic will operate a return service between Palmerston North and Wellington for the same games.

In addition Tranz Scenic are also planning a service from Wellington to Palmerston North for the Lions game against Manawatu on Tuesday June 28.

“With the number of visitors and locals expected for these games, we’re keen to do what we can to make it easy for fans to get to and from the matches” says Graeme Mowday Rail Passenger Marketing Manager.

“We’re still finalising the timetables and fares, and these will be posted on our website in early May. We’ll also be advertising the trains in both the Wairarapa and Manawatu regions.”

It is anticipated there will be keen interest in these services and passengers need to be aware that seats are limited and cannot be pre-booked. Passengers are accepted on a “first come, first served” basis on the day of travel.
