Cathedral Cove Macadamias "Nuts" about Scallop Festival

The team from Cathedral Cove Macadamias is predominately a family affair, along with the help of loyal friends who put up with their ‘so called’ nutty behaviour.

Sue, Brain, Hamish and Justin are all working hard to establish their new business on The Coromandel. Their orchard is located on Lees Rd, just out of Hahei. The 1000 macadamia trees are situated on a gently sloping, north facing section tucked in behind Cathedral Cove.

As a family of food lovers, they are watering at the mouth with anticipation to showcase their Macadamias, combined with local seafood at the upcoming inaugural Whitianga Scallop Festival, which takes place on Saturday 20 August.

With Macadamia’s being the healthiest most versatile nut, delectable dishes such as deep fried macadamia crumbed snapper and shallow fried macadamia crumbed scallops, will be available from their stand on Saturday.

To prove the versatility of Macadamias, their stand will have tasters of nut in natural kernel form, various flavoured kernel (chilli hot, honey etc), macadamia breads, oil and dukkah, cooked savoury dishes and the old favourite chocolate treats including scrummy cakes!!!

Hamish will be providing us with a cooking demonstration, emphasising the simplicity and versatility of ‘Wok’ cooking. He will be supported by Raffaela Delmonte, convenor of the International Slow Food Movement (Auckland Branch). Hamish has organised for a group of between 30-50 Slow Food members to attend the festival and savour our local cuisine with us.
