Amcor workers win five per cent

The dispute at the Amcor flexible packaging plant on Auckland’s North Shore has been settled.

Sixty-four workers walked off the job last Friday after the company refused to include all workers in a five per cent pay offer. When they returned to work on Monday, they were locked out.

Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union national secretary Andrew Little that the dispute had been settled in mediation.

“Initially, workers in the plant that converts plastic into bags were offered five per cent, but their colleagues in the plastics extrusion plant and the stores and warehouse were offered only four per cent,” he said.

“The company has now agreed to a 19-month document to cover all workers, with a five per cent pay rise now and another three per cent in 12 months’ time.”

Mr Little said that the Amcor workers had shown enormous integrity in sticking together to make sure that they all got a fair share.
