Industrial action hits Fairfax
Industrial action has hit the Fairfax publishing group’s New Zealand operation, with workers at the Lower Hutt-based Hutt News striking.
Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union national secretary Andrew Little said that the workers at the company’s Wellington-based community newspapers group had rejected an offer of a 3.2 per cent pay rise.
“These workers want a five per cent rise, which is in line with recent settlements in the public and private sectors,” he said.
Prepress, classified and front office staff at the Hutt News struck for two hours on Friday, with journalists and production workers striking today.
All are now back at work, but Mr Little said that he could not rule out the possibility of further industrial action in the Fairfax group.
