Weymouth undergrounding project now complete!

Weymouth is now free of overhead poles and electricity lines following the completion of Vector's latest overhead improvement project in the area.

Following a major collaborative effort in recent months, Vector, Telecom and Manukau City Council have completed a major project to put four kilometres of electricity and phone lines underground in Weymouth.

New streetlights have also been installed by Vector on behalf of Manukau City Council. The overhead improvement project was carried out as part of Vector’s ‘Dig Once’ initiative, in conjunction with Telecom and Manukau City Council, which aims to share resources and minimise disruption to local residents on major street projects.

David Dick, Vector's Manager Overhead Improvement Programme, says the Weymouth project was a collective effort which has made a real difference to the area.

"The project has seen the area undergo a complete transformation, as not only has the electricity and phone lines been put underground, new streetlighting, footpaths and kerb and channels have also been constructed.

We would like to thank the local community for their support and patience during this project and hope they enjoy their new, improved skyline."

Leigh Auton, CEO Designate of Manukau City Council, says "Partnerships and developments like this improve the quality of life for Manukau residents and enhance the environment and character of our unique communities."

The project saw around 20 streets involved in the project including all streets south (and inclusive) of McLeod Road and Greers Road and also parts of Weymouth Road, Domain Road, Waimai Avenue, Bretts Road, Gibbons Road and Blanes Road. The undergrounding project also included Lucas Place, Mail Avenue and Lane Road.
