Cars of the future come to Tauranga

The very latest in Hybrid Vehicle technology will be on display in Tauranga's Red Square on Thursday 9th March from 11am to 2pm. Members of the public will be able to find out first hand what makes these vehicles achieve fuel efficiency as good as 4L per 100km.

The public display is part of the Sustainable Business Network's Project Green Fleet programme and is aimed at educating the public about the latest fuel efficient technologies such as hybrid vehicles. The project also includes working along side businesses to improve their travel planning and reduce their transport costs. Businesses are able to offset their vehicle carbon emissions with tree planting next to route K.

Regional manager for the Sustainable Business Network (SBN), Calum Revfem says the project Green Fleet open day comes at an ideal time with Western Bay businesses and residents now experiencing the realities of rising fuel costs and traffic congestion. "Hybrid vehicles are not only the most fuel efficient vehicles on the market, but also the cleanest in terms of vehicle emissions".

The Sustainable Business Network is working alongside local businesses and Environment Bay of Plenty who are providing support for the project through their Environmental Enhancement fund.

In 2006 the fund provides seventeen local businesses participation in the first year of the project at no cost. Tauranga City Council and Opus Consultants have also indicated an interest in the initiative as it goes hand in hand with a range of planned local transport projects.

The Sustainable Business Network are holding a project Green Fleet open day on March 9th at Red Square from 11am - 2pm.
