Rare NZ cricket books expecting big prices at Christie’s auction in London
Some of the oldest and rarest New Zealand cricket annuals go under the hammer at Christie’s auctions in London tonight.
One of the lots includes four volumes of the NZ Cricketers’ Annual 1895-98 which is expected to fetch up to 2000 pound.
The annuals once belonged in a collection held by AD Taylor. They were printed and published by Abel, Dykes and Co. in High St, Auckland.
Another book, The Ladies Guide to Cricket by a Lover of Both, was printed at Freeman’s journal Office in Auckland in 1883 and is expected to sell for up to 1000 pound.
The 1890-91 Wellington Cricketers’ Association annual could reach 500 pound. Other books include the history of Otago, Hawke’s Bay cricket history, early cricket in Southland, old NZ Cricket Council balance sheets and annual reports printed by The Press newspaper, and old NZ Cricket annuals.
