Chamber Congratulates King and Cullen on Road Funding Package
The Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce today welcomed the Government’s budget commitment to increased investment in State Highways.
“Annette King and Michael Cullen have delivered most of what we have asked for on road funding in this package,” said Charles Finny CEO. “We asked Government to make up shortfalls that have become apparent in funding over recent months. We also asked Government to make allowance for new projects and priorities. They have done that also. We even suggested the use of infrastructure bonds, funded from outside the National Land Transport Programme. They have done that too.”
“We are particularly pleased to see that the Government has approved an additional $80 million for the preparatory work over the next three years to undertake geotechnical analysis, and final design and final consent work on the Transmission Gully Motorway. This is extra to the $405 million that the Government granted to this project last year. This $80 million allocation means that we can begin work on Transmission Gully one year earlier than was planned. This is very welcome,” said Charles Finny.
