Press Release:
TBWA\Whybin Kicks on With D&AD Award Win
Thursday, MAY 25th, 2006: Advertising agency
TBWA\Whybin’s ground breaking outdoor media campaign for
adidas, known as ‘Be the Ball’, has received yet another
international accolade, this time in London for the D&AD
(Design and Art Direction) Awards, where it has won a
‘Silver Pencil’.
TBWA\Whybin, 180\TBWA is the only New Zealand agency to have received such an award at the event, arguably the most sought after on the international advertising awards calendar. The D&AD competition receives more submissions than any other advertising competition in the world (over 35,000) and yet bestows the fewest number of awards.
The adidas campaign, which was used to launch this year’s World Cup, transformed Auckland’s reverse bungy into a massive football, has proven to be arguably the most highly acclaimed campaign produced in New Zealand within the last 12 months.
It has already received a Gold Award and ‘Grand Clio’ (Best in Show; ‘Innovative Media’ category) at the prestigious Clio Awards in South Beach, Miami, a Silver at ADFEST (Thailand), Bronze at the Media Spikes (Asian Advertising Awards), and a New York One Show Bronze pencil.
“This award caps off an amazing run of success for the agency at every significant advertising awards event in the world. It speaks volumes not only for the creative work being produced by TBWA\Whybin but also the standing New Zealand advertising has within the international advertising community,” says Andy Blood, Creative Director for TBWA\Whybin.
In June, the 2006 Cannes Lions Advertising Festival will acknowledge adidas as client of the year for its brave, innovative, and often breathtaking advertising. TBWA\Whybin has outperformed all other local agencies on the international advertising scene in 2006. Andy Blood, Creative Director at TBWA\Whybin, received the award in London. The account director was Mark Cochrane and the creative team consisted of Guy Roberts, Karen Maurice O'Leary, Verity Butt, and Zayed Siddique.
