Ongoing Telecom Faults Cause Disruptions
To Isps, Broadband Customers
Increasingly frequent and severe outages of Telecom’s bitstream service are causing significant problems to many New Zealand broadband users. Large groups of broadband customers are being disconnected for no apparent reason, followed by varying amounts of time before they are able to reconnect.
ISPANZ president David Diprose says that ISPs have seen these outages occurring for some months now, but many ISPs have found that they have become more frequent in the last few weeks. It appears that Telecom’s broadband network is failing to cope with New Zealand’s increasing demand for broadband.
“I don’t believe the quality of service will improve until ISPs are able to install their own infrastructure into the network, following the roll out of Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) next year”, he says.
ISPANZ directors are meeting with the Telecom Wholesale division tomorrow and will be discussing ways of avoiding such network faults in the future.
