Long Term Focus Welcomed
The government's energy strategy is likely to be viewed overall as positive for business as its long term focus will help provide a stable business environment into the future, said Business NZ's Chief Executive Phil O'Reilly.
"There is merit in the government's intention to involve enterprise in working through the detailed issues arising from the strategy.
"Business will be interested in maintaining competitiveness particularly in relation to electricity prices in the run up to 2012, and in ensuring that any emissions trading regime that eventuates is able to align with that in other countries.
"Business NZ will also work with government during the period that our own research into emissions trading is developed.
Last week Business NZ launched a research study into emissions trading regimes, supported by major NZ companies.
