Westpac’s Green Home Loans Welcomed

Press Release: available for immediate release

Westpac’s Green Home Loans Welcomed

Westpac’s launch of their new Green Home Loan scheme offering discounts for a range of energy and water efficiency improvements to your home has been welcomed by long-established sustainable finance organization, Prometheus Ethical Finance.

“It’s good to see Westpac entering this market as this will help take energy efficient and environmentally-friendly housing into the mainstream” said Prometheus director, Terry Creighton.

Prometheus is the preferred finance provider for the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority’s solar water heating assistance scheme and has been lending for green housing for the past 24 years.

“We have a proud history of lending to eco-housing throughout New Zealand, including rammed-earth houses (such as at the Earthsong Eco-Neighbourhood in Waitakere), straw bale, and mud-brick (adobe) houses. Most of these homes include such features as solar water heating, rainwater collection and reticulation and greywater recycling for gardens and toilets. They are generally built according to passive solar design principles”, Mr Creighton explained.

“Well designed and properly built Green Homes can save their owners a significant amount of money on energy and water bills (in regions where that is charged for) and they substantially reduce a family’s environmental footprint.” he said.

“Having been the leading finance organisation in this sector for the past 24 years we welcome Westpac’s recent entry with their new Green Home Loan scheme. It is exactly the sort of move banking clients in New Zealand need to support the sustainable lifestyle choices many of them want to put into action”, Mr Creighton asserted.
