Walker Scoops Top Prize at Aussie Fashion Awards

Press Release - For Immediate Release

Friday 30 March 2007

Karen Walker Scoops Top Prize at Australian Fashion Awards

In Sydney last night Australia's top fashion magazine, Marie Claire, hosted a glittering award ceremony to honour the best in Australian fashion design. However the prestigious Prix de Marie Claire Best Creative Talent Award went to a Kiwi rather than an Australian, with Karen Walker receiving the honour.

The other two major awards did go to Australians with Toni Maticevski winning best Australian designer and Sass and Bide winning best Australian fashion brand.

This is the first time a New Zealand designer has ever won an award at the event.

Marie Claire Editor Jackie Frank was quoted as saying "Karen Walker is incredible when you look at what she has achieved in such a short amount of time."

Karen says of the award "It's very flattering to win such an important award. To be acknowledged by the industry in this way is thrilling."

The awards were judged by fashion teams from the many different Marie Claire magazines that are published around the world and by key members of the Australian fashion industry.
