Woosh welcomes number portability to New Zealand

Media Release: 4 April 2007

Woosh welcomes number portability to New Zealand

The long awaited launch of Number Portability in New Zealand this week means that customers can now seamlessly transfer their phone services to Woosh, keeping their same phone number, and enjoying the savings & choice that Woosh provides.

Woosh Marketing Director Nick Clarke says, “Number portability brings a new era of competition and ease of change for consumers that Woosh welcomes.”

Number portability has been something that New Zealand consumers have wanted for some time, bringing a wide range of consumer benefits, particularly the removal of the need to inform family, friends & customers of a new phone number, and the removal of the costs and difficulties previously associated with switching phone providers.

Clarke added, “Woosh phone services give businesses & consumers within wireless coverage areas a completely independent alternative phone service, and number portability will make it easier for customers to switch.”

Prices for phone and broadband with Woosh start from $49 a month (including voicemail), compared with $81.10 which many people pay for the equivalent home phone line, voicemail & broadband package from Telecom. The Woosh offer also includes free local calls for both home & business, and calls to 40 countries, including NZ, for just 10c/min.

Woosh phone & broadband is available within wireless coverage areas in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Southland.
