Christchurch to Host 2007 Air New Zealand Wine Awards
New Zealand Winegrowers
today announced that the 2007 Air New Zealand Wine Awards
will be held in Christchurch later this year.
Steve Smith, newly appointment Chef Judge for the Awards, said he is delighted that the trophy awards will be announced at a gala dinner in Christchurch.
“The Air New Zealand Wine Awards are the most prestigious awards in the country and recognise excellence in winemaking in New Zealand. The Canterbury and Waipara wine growing regions continue to grow each year and it is with great delight that we announce Christchurch as the host for the Awards this year,” said Mr Smith.
Managed by New Zealand Winegrowers, with naming-rights sponsor Air New Zealand, the Air New Zealand Wine Awards attracted a record number of entries in 2006, with over 1,700 wines received.
“Wine competitions are extremely important to encourage New Zealand winemakers to strive for excellence and maintain New Zealand’s reputation for premium quality wine around the world,” said Mr Smith.
Air New Zealand is proud to continue their sponsorship of the Awards in Christchurch this year.
The 2007 Air New Zealand Wine Awards dinner will be held at the Christchurch Convention Centre on Saturday, November 24, 2007.
