Unique Web 2.0 website launches in New Zealand
Unique Web 2.0 website www.nztopten.com launches in New Zealand.
Metro Magazine has just announced what it thinks is Auckland's Top 50 restaurants. Isn't it better to give all Aucklanders the power to decide that?
What:
Local
review website www.nztopten.com officially launches today
(2nd May 2007). NZ Top Ten is a local review website where
Kiwis share their favourite - and least favourite - places,
products and services. NZ Top Ten is unique in the way it
combines its review functionality with social networking and
Web 2.0 features. All content on the website is user
generated and user moderated, a rarity on the New Zealand
Internet scene.
At first the focus is on restaurant reviews, but there are other categories users can add reviews to, such as Night Life and Shopping. Like all the content on NZ Top Ten, the categories are created by users.
What is Web 2.0:
Web 2.0 is a phrase that refers
to a second-generation of Web-based services - such as
social networking and user generated content - that
emphasize online collaboration and sharing among users.
Typically Web 2.0 websites will provide a rich, interactive,
user-friendly interface by utilising technologies such as
Ajax.
When:
NZ Top Ten has been in a 'friends only'
state for the last few weeks to build up an initial review
base, but launches publicly today (2nd May
2007).
Who:
NZ Top Ten was created by Malcolm Gibb (29)
and Simon Watt (24), both software
developers.
