Holcim Information Centre proves popular with public

Holcim New Zealand's Weston Option cement plant Information Centre, which opened on Wednesday, has attracted excellent feedback from local community members.

The Information Centre is providing the local community with resources and answers to questions about Holcim's Weston Option cement plant resource consent applications, which were notified on 20 and 21 April.

"Members of the public were interested in a variety of things to do with the Weston Option cement plant proposal. Some had read the AEE and were seeking clarifications on particular topics, while others wanted copies of the information sheets or other material that Holcim has produced," says Paul Commons, Manager Strategy and Development for Holcim (New Zealand) Ltd.

The centre, located at 126-132 Thames Street, (the corner of Eden and Thames streets) Oamaru will now open every Wednesday, between 11am and 6.30pm, throughout the 40 working day submission period (which closes on Tuesday 19 June).

"The feedback from the public was generally very positive. Many of the people we talked with want to make a submission in support of the cement plant applications because they recognise the jobs and other benefits it would bring to the Oamaru district."

Submission packs detailing the resource consent process and how to make a public submission are available for people visiting the Information Centre.

Holcim has also provided full printed copies of the four-volume Weston Option cement plant Assessment of Environmental Effects to the Otago Regional Council and Waitaki District Council, which have these available to view, as well as providing a copy to the Oamaru Library. Electronic copies are also available on CD-Rom at the Information Centre or by contacting Holcim on 0800 43 20 20.
